PBIS

At West Smiths Station Elementary School, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive, school-wide framework that promotes a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students. PBIS is built on the belief that when expectations are clearly defined, explicitly taught, and consistently reinforced, students are more likely to succeed both behaviorally and academically. 

To celebrate positive behavior, we implement a variety of recognition and incentive-based events throughout the year. These include: 

  • PBIS Celebrations for students who consistently meet behavior expectations 

  • Student of the Month Recognition, honoring individuals who demonstrate leadership, kindness, and responsibility 

  • Perfect Attendance Rewards, encouraging consistent school engagement 

  • Positive Office Referrals, where students are acknowledged by staff for going above and beyond 

  • Restorative Practices, ensuring students have opportunities to reflect, learn, and grow from behavioral challenges
